Understanding Pedestrian Crashes Along Rural Roadways
Pedestrian crashes can occur even on quieter rural roads where drivers may not expect people to be walking nearby. Limited shoulders, curves, and reduced visibility can increase the risk of such incidents.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway, pedestrians standing or walking along the roadside may have little time to react. Investigators often review road conditions, driver actions, and visibility to determine how the crash occurred.
Improving awareness for both drivers and pedestrians can help reduce the risk. Drivers are encouraged to remain attentive and maintain control of their vehicles, while pedestrians should use caution and remain visible when traveling along roadways without dedicated sidewalks.
