How Intersections Increase Risk for Small Motorized Vehicles
Intersections can pose greater risks to riders of small motorized vehicles, such as minibikes. These areas bring together traffic from different directions, increasing the risk of a crash if a rider enters the roadway without stopping or yielding.
Minibikes are smaller and less visible than full-sized motorcycles or cars. Drivers approaching an intersection may have difficulty noticing them quickly, especially when traffic is moving in several directions at once.
Protective gear can also influence the outcome of a crash. Helmets and other safety equipment may help reduce the severity of head injuries if a rider is thrown from a vehicle.
Traffic signs and signals are placed to guide vehicles safely through intersections. Following these signs and slowing down before entering a crossing can help reduce the likelihood of a serious accident.
