Linn Co., IA (March 12, 2026) – Two people were hurt in a crash on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, at the intersection of Highway 151 and 80th Street in Linn County.

Emergency units responded to the area at about 3:58 p.m. after reports of a crash involving two vehicles. Authorities said a man driving a Toyota Venza southbound on 80th Street entered the intersection and failed to yield to a man driving a Honda CR-V traveling southbound on Highway 151.

The driver of the Honda CR-V was injured and taken to a nearby hospital. Officials reported that the injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The Toyota Venza driver also went to a hospital for medical evaluation. He traveled to the hospital by private vehicle, and the extent of his injuries has not been confirmed.

The crash remains under investigation, and additional details may become available as authorities continue their review of the incident. Our thoughts are with those injured as they receive care and recover.

Why Failure-to-Yield Crashes Occur at Rural Highway Intersections

Arterial roads such as Highway 151 often carry steady traffic between rural communities. When a crash occurs at intersections like 80th Street in Linn County, emergency responders typically secure the area while assisting those involved.

Drivers approaching from smaller side roads may face difficulty judging the speed of vehicles already traveling on the highway. Because highway traffic usually moves faster, even a minor timing error can lead to a collision at an intersection.

Visibility, road layout, and traffic flow can also influence how safely drivers cross or merge onto highways. When vehicles meet at an intersection after a driver fails to yield, the impact is often on the side or front of one of the vehicles.
