How Rollover Crashes Often Occur on Curved Rural Roads
Roads such as Ring Thunder Road in rural areas often include curves, changing elevations, and limited shoulders. When a driver approaches a curve at an unsafe speed or loses control, the vehicle may slide or rotate before leaving the roadway.
Once a vehicle begins to rotate or drift sideways, it can enter a “yaw” motion where the tires lose full contact with the road surface. This loss of control increases the chance that the vehicle may roll, especially if it hits uneven ground or a ditch along the roadside.
Rollover crashes can cause severe injuries because passengers may be thrown against the interior of the vehicle or out of it if they are not secured. Seat belts are designed to help keep occupants inside the vehicle and reduce movement during sudden impacts.
