Goshen, NY (March 13, 2026) – A major multi-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer shut down Route 17A for several hours on Wednesday afternoon, March 11, in Goshen.
Emergency units were dispatched around 2:47 p.m. after reports of a serious collision involving multiple vehicles along the roadway. When crews arrived, they found nine vehicles involved in the crash, including a tractor-trailer carrying logs that had overturned onto its roof.
Most occupants were able to exit their vehicles on their own. However, officials said the driver of the log truck was trapped upside down inside the cab, while another vehicle had several occupants stuck inside, including a pregnant woman and a passenger in the back seat.
Rescue teams performed complex extrication using hydraulic rescue equipment to remove the trapped drivers. In total, six people were taken to two area hospitals for treatment following the crash.
The roadway remained closed for several hours while crews worked at the scene and cleared damaged vehicles. Route 17A was later reopened around 7:15 p.m.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Why Multi-Vehicle Crashes Often Occur on Busy Regional Routes
Roadways such as Route 17A often carry a mix of passenger vehicles and heavy trucks traveling between communities. When traffic slows or conditions change suddenly, several vehicles traveling close together can become involved in a chain-reaction crash.
Large trucks may increase the complexity of these incidents because of their size and weight. When a truck rolls over or blocks lanes, it can trap nearby vehicles and make it harder for drivers behind them to stop in time.
These types of crashes often require longer response times because crews must assist injured people, remove damaged vehicles, and clear debris from the roadway before traffic can safely resume.
