Why Crashes Frequently Occur at Downtown Intersections
Downtown intersections such as Green Street and North Main Street often bring together vehicles traveling from several directions while drivers prepare to turn or continue straight through the crossing. These movements can create several points where vehicles may cross paths.
Traffic in city centers can also involve drivers slowing for nearby businesses, traffic signals, or pedestrians. Sudden stops or turns may catch other drivers off guard, especially when traffic is close together.
When two vehicles enter the same intersection at the wrong moment, a collision can occur even at lower speeds. In many cases, visibility, timing, and driver awareness all influence whether a crash happens at busy city intersections.
