Roswell, NM (March 14, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision in northwest Roswell on Tuesday evening left one teenager dead and five others injured, according to authorities.
Officers with the Roswell Police Department responded to the crash around 6:35 p.m. near the intersection of North Union Avenue and West 19th Street in Roswell, New Mexico.
Investigators reported that a Honda Accord carrying four local teenagers was traveling southbound on North Union Avenue at a high rate of speed. Officials believe the driver, identified as one of two 17-year-old boys inside the vehicle, lost control of the car.
The vehicle crossed into the opposite lane and collided nearly head-on with a northbound GMC Yukon.
Emergency crews transported all six individuals involved in the crash to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities confirmed that a 16-year-old girl who was riding in the Honda was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Two 17-year-old boys from the Honda were transferred to an out-of-area hospital with severe injuries. A 15-year-old girl in the same vehicle was also transported to another facility, and officials believe her injuries are not life-threatening.
The driver of the GMC Yukon, a 56-year-old woman, was treated at a local hospital and later released. An 11-year-old girl who was riding in the SUV was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.
The Roswell Police Department confirmed that the crash remains under active investigation. Authorities said charges may be pending as investigators complete their reconstruction of the incident. Preliminary findings indicate that excessive speed may have been a major factor in the crash.
We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of the teenager who lost her life in this tragic accident.
High-Speed Crashes Can Lead to Severe Multi-Victim Collisions
Crashes involving high speeds often result in severe injuries or fatalities, particularly when vehicles cross into opposing traffic lanes.
Roadways such as North Union Avenue carry regular traffic through areas of Roswell, New Mexico, and losing control at higher speeds can significantly increase the force of a collision.
When incidents occur near intersections like West 19th Street, investigators often examine vehicle speed, driver behavior, and roadway conditions to determine how the crash unfolded and whether contributing factors played a role.
