How Head-On Crashes on Highways Like I-95 Can Turn Deadly
Head-on crashes are among the most severe types of roadway accidents, especially on high-speed routes like interstates. These collisions often occur when a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, whether due to distraction, fatigue, or loss of control.
Because both vehicles are typically moving at high speeds, the force of impact can be extreme. This increases the risk of fatal injuries, even when safety features are present. Long-distance travel can also add risk, as drivers may face fatigue after hours on the road.
Road design, traffic flow, and visibility can also influence how these crashes happen. In some cases, barriers and clear lane markings help reduce the chance of vehicles crossing into opposing lanes, but they do not eliminate the risk.
