What Happens When a Driver Falls Asleep Behind the Wheel?
Drowsy driving can affect reaction time, awareness, and decision-making. Even a few seconds of sleep can cause a vehicle to drift out of its lane or miss traffic changes. This can quickly lead to dangerous situations, especially on busy roads.
When a driver loses focus, they may not react to nearby vehicles, road signs, or obstacles. In some cases, the first impact can trigger additional collisions, as seen when a vehicle enters oncoming traffic.
Sleep-related crashes often happen in the early morning or late at night. Staying alert, taking breaks during long drives, and avoiding driving while tired can help reduce the risk of these types of accidents.
