Detroit, MI (March 23, 2026) – A 34-year-old man died following a multi-vehicle crash on Sunday evening, March 22, along Interstate 96 near Warren Avenue. The incident occurred at approximately 8:50 p.m.
According to preliminary reports, the driver was merging onto Interstate 96 from Interstate 94 in a Hyundai when he struck the driver’s side of a semi-truck. The impact caused the Hyundai to lose control and crash into the left concrete wall, partially blocking the left lane. Two children, ages four and eight, were removed from the vehicle by another motorist, leaving the driver inside.
Shortly after, a Dodge Ram traveling in the left lane collided with the Hyundai, causing it to spin and strike the vehicle of the driver who had stopped to help. Troopers began CPR at the scene and transported the Hyundai driver to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic loss.
Understanding Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Highways
Highway crashes can escalate quickly, especially when multiple vehicles are involved. Even minor collisions can trigger a chain reaction when drivers are unable to stop or react in time.
Merging areas and entrance ramps are common sites for accidents due to differences in speed between vehicles. Secondary collisions can occur when stopped or disabled vehicles remain in travel lanes, putting others at risk.
Emergency response, including immediate medical aid and traffic management, is crucial to prevent further injury. Vehicle positioning, road layout, and driver reaction all play a role in how such incidents unfold.
