Why Rear-End Crashes Often Occur When Vehicles Slow to Turn
Rear-end collisions frequently happen when one vehicle slows or stops while preparing to turn off a roadway. Drivers approaching from behind may not immediately notice the change in speed.
If the following driver is traveling too fast or not maintaining a safe distance, there may be little time to brake safely. This can lead to a collision with the rear of the vehicle ahead.
Nighttime conditions can also increase the risk of these crashes. Reduced visibility may make it harder to judge distance or notice brake lights in time.
Because the force of impact is directed into the rear of a vehicle, passengers can experience sudden movement during the crash, which may result in injuries even at moderate speeds.
