San Francisco, CA (August 29, 2026) – Emergency crews responded on Thursday afternoon, August 27, to a two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate 280 near the Monterey Boulevard off-ramp in San Francisco. The collision was reported at approximately 2:32 p.m.
According to California Highway Patrol dispatch records, a white Toyota RAV4 and another vehicle were involved. The crash initially blocked a lane, and later updates indicated that one lane remained closed while other lanes reopened.
Dispatch information reported that a child suffered a head injury. CHP later classified the incident as a collision involving minor injuries. Both vehicles required towing, and one was reported to have major front-end damage. The crash remains under investigation.
We hope the injured child and anyone else hurt recover fully.
Why Can Afternoon Freeway Crashes Be Especially Risky for Young Passengers?
Children can be more vulnerable to crash forces because of their smaller size and developing bodies, particularly when a collision involves sudden forward or sideways movement.
Freeway impacts may also happen at higher speeds, increasing the forces placed on occupants. Head injuries can be especially concerning because symptoms may not always be immediately obvious.
Travel speed, seating position, restraint use, impact angle, and vehicle damage can all influence injury severity. When a young passenger is involved, responders may take extra care to evaluate possible head or neck injuries.
