Agoura Hills, CA (February 24, 2026) – A fatal incident early on Tuesday morning led to a major traffic disruption along U.S. 101 near Lost Hills Road in Agoura Hills.
The situation was first reported around 5:57 a.m. on February 24, on the eastbound side of US-101 just west of the Lost Hills Road on-ramp. Initial information indicated a big rig had pulled over to the right shoulder, with a person possibly lying in the number four lane.
A red semi-truck driver was among those at the scene, and a white Tesla was also reported stopped on the right shoulder nearby. Authorities requested a hard closure of lanes and issued a traffic alert expected to last several hours as units diverted vehicles at the Lost Hills Road off-ramp.
The Los Angeles County Coroner was notified and responded to the scene. By approximately 6:45 a.m., the number one lane was reopened, and traffic was expected to gradually ease.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Fatal Highway Incidents Affect Traffic in Los Angeles County
Fatal incidents on major highways often require extended lane closures. This allows for a thorough scene review and safe removal of vehicles and debris.
On busy routes like U.S. 101, even a single closed lane can create significant delays during early morning hours. When multiple lanes are affected, traffic may be diverted to nearby exits, increasing congestion on local roads.
Closures near on-ramps and off-ramps can also impact merging traffic. Drivers may encounter sudden slowdowns or detours until lanes fully reopen and normal traffic patterns resume.
