Albany, NY (January 7, 2026) – Two people were hurt early Tuesday morning in a serious head-on crash on Route 20 near Robinson’s Hardware in the Guilderland section of Albany. Emergency dispatch reports indicate the collision occurred just after 6:20 a.m. on January 6, drawing a major response from the Westmere Fire Department.
First responders arrived to find two vehicles with heavy front-end damage and occupants trapped inside. Crews from Westmere Fire performed extrications using multiple tools to free both individuals from the wreckage. According to emergency radio traffic, both victims suffered leg injuries, with one responder describing the scene as “horrific” due to the extent of entrapment.
The crash occurred during early commute hours on a stretch of Western Ave (Route 20) that may have been affected by icy or slick road conditions. While the cause of the crash has not yet been officially confirmed, responders noted the presence of snow and a greasy road surface at the time of the incident.
Following extrication, the injured parties were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No additional injuries were reported, and traffic in the area was delayed while crews cleared the scene.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this traumatic crash, and we thank the Westmere Fire Department for their quick and decisive actions in a challenging situation.
