Roadside Crash Risks on High-Speed Routes
Crashes involving stopped vehicles can be severe, especially when they happen along highways or emergency lanes. Vehicles moving at higher speeds may have limited time to react to a car stopped in traffic.
Hazard lights can help make a stopped vehicle more visible, but they cannot remove the danger of passing traffic. Low light, driver distraction, roadway curves, and traffic speed might all affect how quickly another driver sees a vehicle on the shoulder.
People inside or near a stopped vehicle may face serious injury if another vehicle strikes from behind or from the side. Medical teams often check for head trauma, chest injuries, broken bones, internal injuries, and severe facial injuries after high-impact roadside crashes.
