Why Pedestrian Crashes Can Be Fatal
Pedestrian accidents are often serious because pedestrians lack protection compared with vehicle occupants. Even collisions at moderate speeds can result in severe or fatal injuries.
Factors such as visibility, roadway lighting, and driver reaction time significantly affect the likelihood of an accident. Intersections, curves, and areas with limited sidewalks can increase the risk for pedestrians.
Emergency responders focus on providing rapid medical care and securing the scene to prevent further incidents. Protective measures, including crosswalks, street lighting, and awareness from both drivers and pedestrians, are critical to reducing pedestrian fatalities.
