How Brake Failures and Sidewalk Intrusions Can Lead to Pedestrian Injuries
Pedestrian crashes in downtown areas often happen in places where sidewalks are close to active traffic lanes. When a vehicle leaves the roadway, even briefly, people on foot may have little time to react.
Mechanical issues, such as brake failure, can increase the risk of a vehicle entering a pedestrian space. Regular vehicle maintenance, including brake inspections, can help reduce the chance of unexpected loss of control.
Busy intersections like Compromise St and St. Mary’s St typically see steady foot traffic, especially on weekends. Clear visibility, slower speeds, and attentive driving can help lower the risk of crashes that involve pedestrians in urban settings.
