Pasadena, TX (May 17, 2026) – A Pasadena police officer and multiple drivers were injured on Saturday, May 16, following a multi-vehicle crash on State Highway 225 in Pasadena.
Authorities said the incident occurred in the 300 block of Highway 225 while an officer was conducting a traffic stop. The marked patrol vehicle was struck from behind by another vehicle, triggering a chain-reaction collision involving four vehicles, including the patrol unit.
Emergency units responded to the scene and transported the officer and two other drivers to nearby hospitals for medical evaluation. One additional driver declined medical transport after being assessed at the scene. Officials later confirmed that all involved vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the roadway.
In an update, police stated that the injured officer was released from the hospital at approximately 2 a.m. on Sunday. The patrol vehicle showed major damage to both the front and rear following the impact.
The Pasadena Police Department’s Crash Reconstruction Team is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We are thinking of everyone who was injured and wish them continued recovery.
What Happens When a Chain-Reaction Crash Occurs on a Highway?
Chain-reaction crashes often begin with a single impact that causes additional vehicles to collide in quick succession. On busy highways, drivers may have limited time to react, especially when traffic is stopped or slowed due to roadside activity.
Investigators typically examine the point of initial impact, vehicle spacing, and braking patterns to understand how the sequence unfolded. In cases involving emergency traffic stops, roadside visibility and driver awareness may also be reviewed.
Because multiple vehicles are often involved, responders must coordinate medical evaluations, vehicle removal, and roadway clearance simultaneously. This can extend scene time and lead to temporary lane closures until all hazards are addressed.
