Carbondale, IL (June 24, 2026) – One resident was injured after an apartment fire early on Monday morning in Carbondale.
According to the Carbondale Fire Department, crews responded at approximately 4:15 a.m. on June 22 to an automatic fire alarm in the 2000 block of South Illinois Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke throughout the building and discovered an active fire inside one apartment unit.
During a search of the residence, firefighters located an unconscious occupant inside the affected apartment. Crews removed the resident from the unit and provided emergency medical care before the individual was transported by Jackson County Ambulance Service to Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
Firefighters successfully contained the blaze to the apartment where it originated, preventing it from spreading to neighboring units. Officials reported that no other residents were displaced as a result of the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though authorities said it is being treated as accidental.
