How Do Intersection Crashes Lead to Serious Injuries?
Intersection crashes are among the most common types of roadway incidents and can often result in significant injuries due to the angles at which vehicles collide. When two vehicles enter an intersection at the same time, the impact is often from the side, where there is less structural protection than at the front or rear of a vehicle.
These types of collisions, sometimes called “T-bone” crashes, can be especially dangerous for passengers seated on the impacted side. The force of the crash can lead to severe injuries, even at moderate speeds.
Factors such as failure to yield, distracted driving, or misjudging another vehicle’s speed can contribute to intersection accidents. Drivers can reduce risk by approaching intersections cautiously, obeying traffic signals, and remaining attentive to surrounding traffic conditions.
