What Factors Are Often Reviewed in Head-On Highway Collisions?
Head-on crashes are typically among the most severe roadway incidents and often involve detailed reconstruction to determine why a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic. Investigators commonly examine lane positioning, speed, and driver behavior leading up to the impact.
Roadway conditions such as visibility, curves, and signage are also reviewed to assess whether environmental factors played a role. Seat belt use and vehicle restraint systems are evaluated in fatal cases, as they can significantly affect injury outcomes. In addition, vehicle damage patterns and final resting positions help investigators reconstruct the direction and force of the collision. These findings are used together to determine how and why the vehicles came into contact.
