Arvin, CA (January 29, 2026) – A 21-year-old woman lost her life early Monday morning after being struck by a vehicle while lying in the roadway on North Rancho Dr near Rancho Rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 4:52 a.m. on January 26. Authorities say the woman was in the roadway when she was hit by a 2010 Honda Civic traveling southbound on North Rancho Dr. The driver, a 23-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after the collision and pronounced the woman deceased at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released, pending notification of her next-of-kin.
Initial reports indicate that alcohol or drug use is not suspected on the part of the driver. It remains unclear why the pedestrian was lying in the roadway or whether impairment may have been a factor for her.
North Rancho Dr was closed for more than two hours while officials conducted a thorough on-scene investigation and collected evidence.
