Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes like this one, where a driver swerves to avoid another vehicle?
These crashes usually start with one driver failing to yield or running a stop sign, forcing another driver to make a sudden evasive move that can lead to a loss of control.
Does wearing a seat belt matter in a single-vehicle crash into a fixed object like a tree?
Yes. Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown within or out of the vehicle during a sudden impact, which commonly reduces the severity of injuries in these crashes.
Why is failing to stop at a stop sign so dangerous for other drivers?
It removes the small window other drivers have to react safely, usually forcing sudden braking or steering that can itself cause a crash even without a direct collision.
