Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Even a few seconds of taking your eyes off the road can mean traveling the length of a football field without seeing what's ahead, especially at highway speeds, leaving little time to react to a curve, stopped traffic or another vehicle.
How do road conditions and curves factor into crashes like this one?
Curves reduce a driver's sight distance and demand more precise steering and speed control. Wet pavement, debris or an unfamiliar road can make it harder to stay in the lane, especially for less experienced drivers.
What should someone do immediately after a crash like this?
Call 911, check for injuries, and avoid moving anyone who may be seriously hurt unless there is an immediate danger like fire. Stay as far from traffic as possible until help arrives.
Where do most two vehicle crashes tend to happen?
Many crashes occur at intersections, curves and other spots where drivers must judge another vehicle's speed and path, making full attention and a safe following distance especially important.
