Frequently Asked Questions
Does impairment factor into many fatal crashes? Alcohol or drug impairment is a factor in a large share of fatal crashes nationally, though whether it played a role here has not been confirmed.
Where do fatal pedestrian crashes typically happen? Many occur at intersections or along roadways after dark, where visibility is lower and drivers have less time to react.
What makes a crash more likely to be fatal? Higher speeds, poor lighting, and limited reaction time all raise the odds that a crash will be deadly rather than survivable.
How much does speed affect survival chances? Even modest increases in speed reduce the time a driver has to stop and increase the force of impact, which lowers the odds of survival for anyone struck.
What to Do After a Hit-and-Run Crash in Atlanta, GA
If you witness a hit-and-run crash, call 911 right away and try to note details about the fleeing vehicle, such as color, make, or any part of the license plate.
