Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to spot motorcycles and mopeds more easily?
Checking twice before turning left across traffic, using mirrors and shoulder checks, and allowing extra time at intersections can help drivers notice smaller, narrower vehicles that are easy to miss in a quick glance.
What should someone do after being involved in a motorcycle or moped crash?
Call 911, stay as still as possible until medical help arrives, and avoid removing a helmet or moving an injured rider unless there's an immediate danger. Getting checked at a hospital is important even if injuries seem minor at first.
Do motorcycle and moped crashes happen more often at intersections?
Left-turn crashes, like a car turning into a driveway or lot across oncoming traffic, are a common pattern in these collisions because riders can be harder to judge for distance and speed.
Does road surface affect how safe a ride is?
Yes. Loose gravel, potholes, and wet or oily pavement reduce a rider's ability to brake or steer quickly, and businesses with shared driveways or parking lot entrances add extra risk for turning vehicles.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Honolulu, HI
After a motorcycle or moped crash, the first priority is medical care, even for injuries that don't seem serious at first. Adrenaline can mask pain, and some injuries, especially head and internal injuries, aren't obvious right away. It's also worth requesting a copy of the police report once it's available and documenting any damage or injuries with photos while details are fresh. If a vehicle involved was insured, start the claims process promptly, and give yourself time to rest and recover before making any major decisions about repairs or next steps.
