Frequently Asked Questions
Does a vehicle's speed change a pedestrian's chances of survival?
Yes. The faster a vehicle is moving at the point of impact, the more force is transferred to the person struck, and survival rates drop sharply as speed increases, especially above 30 mph.
Where do most pedestrian crashes happen?
Many occur on roads with higher speed limits, at interchanges, or where pedestrians cross outside marked crosswalks, particularly on multi-lane highways and feeder roads like the one involved here.
Are pedestrian crashes more likely after dark?
Reduced visibility at night and during evening hours raises the risk substantially, since drivers have less time to see and react to someone in or near the roadway.
What should a pedestrian do immediately after being struck by a vehicle?
Call 911 right away, avoid moving unless staying in place poses further danger, and seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, since some symptoms appear hours later.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Dallas, TX
Anyone who witnesses or is involved in a pedestrian crash should call 911 immediately and, if safe, move away from active traffic lanes. Do not attempt to render aid that could worsen an injury; wait for trained responders unless CPR or basic first aid is clearly needed. Get contact information from any witnesses, since their accounts can matter later. Even bystanders who are shaken but unhurt should consider a medical check, and anyone affected should keep records of what they saw or experienced in case investigators follow up. Dallas police continue to handle these inquiries case by case, so patience with road closures and detours in the area is appreciated while the investigation proceeds.
