Aurora, CO (March 22, 2026) – A man was killed, and two others were seriously injured when a Toyota Corolla rear-ended a pickup truck on northbound Interstate 225 in Aurora.
Authorities were called to the crash around 2:16 a.m. on Saturday, March 21. Officers found that a backseat passenger in the Corolla had died at the scene. The driver and another passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital.
The Corolla collided with the rear of a Chevrolet Silverado while both vehicles were traveling northbound just north of East Iliff Avenue. Investigators said the Silverado was reportedly changing lanes when the Corolla attempted the same maneuver. The Corolla overturned and came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.
Two occupants of the Silverado reportedly fled the scene. Aurora Police are seeking public assistance to identify them. Preliminary evidence suggests the Silverado may have been speeding at the time of the collision. Authorities continue to investigate, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Rear-End and Lane-Change Crashes Can Be Deadly
Rear-end accidents can be especially dangerous at high speeds, as the force can eject passengers or overturn vehicles. Lane-change errors, sudden braking, or misjudged gaps often contribute to such crashes.
Vehicles involved in lane-change collisions may strike each other at angles that amplify the impact. Occupants not wearing seatbelts or seated improperly are at higher risk of serious injury or death. Maintaining safe speeds, proper distances, and careful lane changes can help reduce these risks.
