New Philadelphia, OH (March 22, 2026) – A motorcyclist lost his life after a crash on Saturday evening, March 21, in Tuscarawas County. The accident happened around 5:05 p.m. along SR800 near Froman Hill Rd in Fairfield Township.
Officials said 63-year-old Jack Lineberry was riding a 2006 Harley-Davidson southbound when he approached a vehicle slowing to turn right. As the car prepared to turn onto Froman Hill Rd, Lineberry swerved left of center to avoid a collision.
His motorcycle then slid off the east side of the road and struck a guardrail. Emergency units arrived and airlifted him to Summa Health Systems in Akron for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Lineberry later died from his injuries early Sunday morning. Reports indicate alcohol and drugs were factors in the crash, and he was not wearing a helmet at the time.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones.
How Road Conditions and Rider Decisions Can Affect Motorcycle Safety
Motorcycle crashes often involve a combination of road conditions and split-second decisions. When traffic slows for turns, riders must quickly assess speed, distance, and positioning to avoid sudden hazards. Even slight miscalculations can lead to loss of control, especially on two-wheeled vehicles.
Protective gear can also influence outcomes during a crash. Helmets are designed to reduce head injuries, which are among the most serious risks riders face. Without them, the chances of severe harm increase significantly.
Roadside features like guardrails, while meant to improve safety, can become hazards in certain situations. When a rider leaves the roadway, these structures may contribute to the severity of injuries due to direct impact.
