Frequently Asked Questions
Where do fatal crashes most frequently happen?
Deadly crashes are commonly concentrated on high-speed roads like highways and expressways, where vehicles travel faster and impacts carry more force than on local streets.
What factors make a crash more likely to be fatal?
Speed, impaired driving, lack of seat belt use and nighttime conditions are factors frequently cited by investigators as increasing the odds a crash turns deadly.
How does speed affect whether someone survives a crash?
Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which raises the likelihood of serious or fatal injury.
Why does seat belt use matter so much?
Seat belts keep occupants from being thrown from their seats or ejected during a crash, which lowers the risk of fatal injury.
