How Fatal Semi-Truck Crashes Are Commonly Investigated
Collisions involving large commercial trucks are often examined in detail due to the size and weight differences between vehicles. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, braking activity, and roadway conditions to determine how the crash occurred.
Electronic logging devices and onboard truck data can sometimes provide additional information about speed and driver actions before impact. In addition, traffic camera footage and witness statements may help reconstruct the timeline of events.
Because freeway closures are often required in these cases, crews must also coordinate roadway cleanup and safety inspections before reopening lanes. These steps help ensure all evidence is properly documented while restoring traffic flow safely.
