York Township, OH (August 19, 2026) – A two-month-old baby was seriously injured on Tuesday morning after a Chevrolet Cobalt overturned on I-77 in York Township.
The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. on August 19, near milepost 79. The northbound black Cobalt reportedly drifted into the median after the driver fell asleep.
The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to cross both lanes before leaving the right side of the roadway and overturning. The baby was being held by a front-seat passenger and was ejected during the rollover.
The infant was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital with serious injuries. The driver and passenger also suffered minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. We hope the injured baby and other people involved make a full recovery.
Why Are Rollover Crashes Especially Dangerous?
Rollover accidents can cause serious injuries because occupants may be thrown around inside a vehicle or ejected when restraints are not properly used. Multiple movements during a rollover can also increase the risk of harm.
Child safety seats are designed to keep young passengers secured during sudden vehicle movement. Infants should ride in an age- and size-appropriate restraint that is properly installed.
Children should never be held in a moving vehicle. A passenger’s arms cannot provide the same protection as a properly secured child restraint during a sudden stop or rollover.
Driver fatigue can also create serious roadway risks. Falling asleep while driving can cause a vehicle to drift out of its lane before the driver has time to regain control.
