Single-Vehicle Crashes and the Risks of Leaving the Roadway
Single-vehicle crashes involving trees or fixed objects can be especially severe. When a vehicle departs the roadway, the impact is often concentrated on one side, increasing the likelihood of serious injury to occupants.
Highways like MO 76 may include curves, narrow shoulders, or changing terrain that can challenge drivers. Even a brief loss of control can result in a vehicle traveling off the pavement.
Investigators typically review road conditions, speed, and driver actions when examining these crashes. Staying alert, adjusting speed for roadway conditions, and maintaining full control of the vehicle are key steps in reducing the risk of running off the road.
