Lane-Change Crashes on Busy Interchanges
Highway interchanges like I-270 and I-170 often involve merging traffic and frequent lane changes. When a driver changes lanes without enough space, nearby vehicles may not have time to react.
Side-impact collisions are common in unsafe lane-change crashes. After the initial impact, vehicles can lose control and leave the roadway, increasing the risk of striking barriers or other fixed objects.
Early morning traffic may move at steady speeds, which can reduce reaction time during sudden maneuvers. Checking blind spots, signaling early, and ensuring a clear lane before merging are key steps in reducing the likelihood of similar crashes.
