Why Highway Pedestrian Crashes Are Investigated Closely
Pedestrian crashes on highways are often complex due to limited visibility and high vehicle speeds. Investigators typically review where the pedestrian was located, roadway lighting, and traffic conditions at the time of the collision.
Vehicle damage, debris patterns, and witness statements can help determine how the impact occurred. Officials may also examine whether the pedestrian was walking near travel lanes or shoulders before the crash.
Because highways are designed primarily for vehicle traffic, pedestrian incidents in these areas frequently result in severe injuries. Detailed scene reconstruction is often needed to better understand the sequence of events.
