How Hit-and-Run Cases Are Investigated
Hit-and-run investigations often focus on locating the fleeing vehicle through physical evidence and witness information. Debris left behind at the scene, including broken lights or vehicle parts, can help investigators narrow down the type of vehicle involved.
Traffic cameras and nearby surveillance footage are also commonly reviewed to track the vehicle’s direction after the crash. Investigators may compare damage patterns with suspect vehicles located later during the investigation.
In pedestrian fatalities, roadway lighting, crossing locations, and driver visibility are often examined as part of the case. These details help investigators better understand how the collision occurred.
