Fatigue-Related Crashes on Interstate Highways
Drowsy driving can be especially dangerous on interstates like I-44, where traffic typically moves at higher speeds. When a driver falls asleep, even briefly, the vehicle may continue forward without braking or steering adjustments.
Rear-end collisions are common in fatigue-related crashes because the driver does not react in time to slowing traffic ahead. Overnight and early morning hours often increase the risk, as drivers may be battling natural sleep cycles.
Long-distance travel, irregular sleep schedules, and extended time behind the wheel can all contribute to drowsy driving. Taking regular breaks and ensuring adequate rest before driving are key steps in reducing the likelihood of fatigue-related crashes.
