Left-Turn Collisions at Highway Intersections
Crashes frequently occur when one vehicle attempts a left turn across oncoming traffic. At intersections like Missouri M and I-55, drivers must carefully judge speed and distance before turning.
When a turning vehicle miscalculates or an approaching vehicle cannot slow in time, the impact often strikes the front or side of one of the vehicles. These types of collisions can result in significant damage due to the angle of impact.
Busy highway junctions require increased awareness from all drivers. Watching for turn signals, reducing speed when approaching intersections, and allowing adequate gaps in traffic can help lower the risk of similar crashes.
