Bellevue Twp, MN (April 3, 2026) – Two children were injured on Thursday morning after a crash on Highway 10 in Morrison County. The accident happened around 6:57 a.m. near 83rd Street in Bellevue Township, north of Royalton.
Emergency units responded to the scene, where a 2019 Toyota 4Runner and a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado were both traveling westbound. Authorities said the 4Runner lost control on an icy roadway, fishtailed, and struck the Silverado. Both vehicles then left the roadway and entered a ditch filled with water.
The Silverado rolled before coming to rest upright. Two young passengers in the Silverado, ages 3 and 5, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital. The drivers of both vehicles were not reported to be injured.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Do Icy Road Conditions Affect Vehicle Control?
Icy roads can significantly reduce tire traction, making it harder for drivers to maintain control. Even small steering or braking actions may cause a vehicle to slide or fishtail, especially at higher speeds.
When a vehicle begins to skid, it can quickly move out of its lane or spin into nearby traffic. This is more likely on highways where vehicles travel faster and have less time to react to changing conditions.
Stopping distances are also longer on ice. Drivers may not be able to slow down in time to avoid a collision. Reducing speed, avoiding sudden movements, and maintaining safe following distances can help lower the risk of crashes in icy conditions.
