Why Rollover Accidents Can Become Fatal
Rollover crashes can cause severe injuries because the vehicle may strike the ground multiple times, with the force increasing when the vehicle leaves the road before flipping. People inside can be thrown against windows, doors, or the roof, and those without a proper seat belt risk ejection entirely. Ejected occupants face a fivefold higher mortality rate compared to those who remain inside the vehicle.
Speed, road shoulders, curves, and driver impairment all contribute to how a vehicle leaves the roadway and how severe the result becomes. Montana recorded 198 total traffic fatalities in 2025, with 37 highway deaths reported in early 2026 compared to 39 during the same period the year prior.
