Why Head-On Crashes on Rural Highways Can Be Serious
Head-on crashes on rural highways often lead to major traffic disruptions and serious injuries because vehicles are usually traveling at higher speeds. Even a brief movement across the center line can quickly place drivers in the path of oncoming traffic, leaving little time to react.
Many rural highways also have limited shoulders and fewer barriers separating lanes. This can make recovery more difficult if a driver drifts off course. Large commercial trucks add another layer of risk because of their size and weight compared to smaller passenger vehicles.
After these crashes, road conditions, visibility, vehicle damage, and witness statements are commonly reviewed to help piece together how the collision happened. Medical evaluations may also provide more information about the severity of injuries tied to the accident.
