How Smoke Inhalation Affects People During House Fires
Smoke inhalation is one of the most common risks during residential fires. Breathing in smoke can expose people to harmful gases and reduce the amount of oxygen available to the body.
Even short exposure can cause symptoms such as coughing, dizziness, and difficulty breathing. In more serious cases, it can lead to long-term health issues or require hospital care.
Fires that start in one part of a home can quickly spread the smoke to other areas. This can make it harder for occupants to exit safely, especially at night when people may be asleep.
Proper ventilation, early detection through smoke alarms, and quick evacuation can help reduce the risk of smoke-related injuries during a fire.
