What Can Lead to Head-on Collisions on Two-Lane Highways
Head-on crashes often happen when a vehicle crosses the centerline into oncoming traffic. On two-lane highways, there is little separation between opposing traffic, increasing the risk of head-on collisions.
Driver behavior, road conditions, and vehicle control all affect how these crashes occur. Sudden movements, distraction, or loss of control may cause a vehicle to enter the wrong lane.
When large trucks are involved, the difference in size and weight can increase the severity of the crash. Post-impact fire may also occur due to fuel system damage, further increasing the danger in such situations.
