BOISE, Ada County, Idaho, Nov. 2, 2026 — A motorcyclist died after a crash on South Vista Avenue on Saturday afternoon, October 31, on the Boise Bench. A woman driving the other vehicle involved was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The crash happened near the intersection of South Vista Avenue and West Lemhi Street shortly before 5 p.m. Evidence at the scene indicated the motorcyclist was traveling at a high rate of speed when he struck the back of the woman's vehicle.

Officers who responded gave emergency aid to the motorcyclist before paramedics arrived. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The woman was also hospitalized.

Police closed a stretch of South Vista Avenue for several hours so the department's crash reconstruction team could examine the scene. The road reopened shortly after 9:30 p.m. The Ada County Coroner's Office is expected to release the motorcyclist's identity once his family has been notified. The investigation remains active.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gear helps reduce injury risk for motorcyclists?

A DOT-approved helmet, a protective jacket and pants, gloves and over-the-ankle boots can reduce the severity of injuries in a crash. Reflective or bright clothing can also help other drivers spot a rider sooner.

What usually causes motorcycle crashes?

Common factors include speed, a vehicle turning left in front of a rider, following too closely, and a driver failing to see a motorcycle in traffic.

Why do motorcycle crashes tend to cause more serious injuries than other crashes?

A motorcycle offers no outer frame or airbags to absorb a collision, so riders are more exposed to direct impact and to being thrown from the bike.

How do left-turning vehicles cause collisions with motorcycles?

A driver turning left at an intersection may misjudge a motorcycle's speed or distance, or simply not see it, and pull into its path as it comes through the intersection.
