How Workplace Incidents Involving Heavy Equipment Can Occur
Incidents involving heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, often occur in industrial areas where large machinery operates in tight spaces. Workers may be at risk when vehicles are moving or backing up near loading zones.
Limited visibility is a common factor. Operators may not be able to see workers positioned behind or beside equipment, especially when large dumpsters or structures block the view.
Clear communication and designated safety zones can help reduce risk. Spotters, warning signals, and proper spacing between equipment and workers are often used to improve awareness and prevent accidents in busy work environments.
