What Risks Are Present at Railroad Crossings During Traffic Stops?
Railroad crossings require vehicles to stop or slow down when trains are approaching, which can create sudden changes in traffic flow. Drivers behind stopped vehicles may not always react in time, increasing the risk of rear-end collisions.
Visibility and awareness are key in these areas. Warning signals and barriers are designed to alert drivers, but drivers must also pay attention to traffic ahead to avoid crashes.
Larger vehicles, such as buses, may take longer to move after stopping. This can increase the risk if the following drivers do not adjust their speed or maintain sufficient distance when approaching a crossing.
