Brooklyn, CT (May 11, 2026) – Two people riding a motorcycle suffered serious injuries following a crash involving an SUV on Sunday afternoon, May 10, in Brooklyn, according to state police.
The collision occurred around 2:15 p.m. on Providence Road (Route 6). Troopers said a Hyundai SUV was traveling westbound when a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, also heading westbound behind it, struck the rear of the vehicle.
Emergency units responded to the scene and transported both the motorcycle operator and passenger to UMass for treatment. Officials said the driver sustained serious injuries, while the passenger suffered life-threatening injuries.
Route 6 was temporarily closed while investigators processed the scene and cleared the roadway. The road has since reopened to traffic.
Authorities confirmed the crash remains under investigation as of Monday morning.

Why Rear-End Motorcycle Crashes Can Be Especially Severe
Rear-end crashes involving motorcycles often result in serious injuries because motorcycles offer little protection during impact. Unlike passenger vehicles, riders are exposed and can be thrown forward or off the bike even in lower-speed collisions.
Highway and roadway conditions can also contribute to crash severity, especially when vehicles travel at steady speeds and sudden braking occurs. In multi-vehicle traffic, visibility and following distance are critical factors in preventing collisions. Passengers on motorcycles face additional risk because they may have even less stability during impact.
Emergency responders typically prioritize rapid transport to trauma centers in cases involving suspected head, spinal, or internal injuries. Investigators often examine speed, following distance, and braking patterns when reviewing rear-end motorcycle crashes.
