What Factors Are Reviewed After a Bicycle-Involved Crash
When a crash involves a bicycle and a vehicle, several details are typically examined to understand how the incident occurred. These often include the direction both parties were traveling and whether traffic controls or lane markings were present.
Investigators also examine the positions of the bicycle and the vehicle after the crash. The distance between them can provide clues about the point of impact and the movement of each vehicle before the collision.
Damage to the vehicle may also help explain how the contact occurred. For example, windshield or front-end damage can indicate the impact’s height and angle.
Road conditions, lighting, and the surrounding environment may also provide useful context, particularly when crashes occur near intersections or school zones where traffic patterns can vary.
