Callaway Co., MO (April 16, 2026) – A 91-year-old woman died following a crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer in Callaway County.
The accident occurred shortly before noon on Wednesday, April 15, along Hwy 54 at County Rd 2002. Reports indicate a Ford Fusion struck the front of a tractor-trailer, causing the car to leave the roadway and overturn.
Emergency units responded and transported the woman, a resident of Fulton, to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The impact caused the truck’s towed unit to detach and veer off the left side of the roadway. Authorities also reported that neither driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
How Collisions with Large Trucks Can Lead to Severe Outcomes
Crashes involving passenger vehicles and tractor-trailers often result in serious damage due to the size and weight difference between the vehicles. Even a front-end impact can cause a smaller vehicle to lose control or overturn.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway after impact, the risk of further damage increases. Uneven terrain or roadside obstacles can contribute to rollovers and additional hazards.
Large trucks may also experience secondary effects during a crash, such as cargo shifts or trailer detachment. These factors can create added risks for others on the road and may complicate cleanup and recovery efforts afterward.
