The crash led to the closure of the northbound lanes for several hours before reopening around 8:30 a.m. The identity of the man who died has not been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased.
Why Secondary Incidents Can Occur After an Initial Crash
After an initial crash, the roadway can quickly become a dangerous environment for anyone outside a vehicle. Drivers who exit their cars may face risks from passing traffic, especially on high-speed roads like highways and freeways.
Low visibility, limited lighting, and fast-moving vehicles can reduce other drivers’ reaction time. This increases the chance of a second collision involving someone on foot.
Traffic flow disruptions, such as stopped or damaged vehicles, can also create confusion for approaching drivers. These conditions can contribute to additional incidents shortly after the first crash occurs.
